Hazrat Yousaf (A.S), one of the most beautiful and wise people, was the beloved son of Hazrat Yaqub (A.S). His tale, described in Surah Yusuf, is referred to as *Ahsan-ul-Qasas*—the best of stories—because it gives us deep lessons on patience, ethics, and planning by Allah.
Hazrat Yousaf (A.S) was a child when he dreamt of eleven stars, the sun, and the moon bowing down before him. His father revealed to him that this was a sign of greatness in the future but cautioned him against telling his brothers because they were jealous and might kill him. Motivated by jealousy, they threw him into a well and lied that a wolf ate him up. A caravan picked him up later and took him into slavery in Egypt.
In Egypt, he was purchased by the Aziz, whose wife Zulaikha attempted to seduce him. Hazrat Yousaf (A.S), afraid of Allah, did not give in to her approaches. Despite his innocence, he was imprisoned. In prison, he explained dreams with godly wisdom, one of which brought him release when the king consulted him about interpreting a distressing dream.
Hazrat Yousaf (A.S) foretold seven years of plenty and then seven years of famine. The king was amazed and made him the caretaker of Egypt's storerooms. When the famine struck, his brothers went to beg for food without knowing who he was. Finally, he identified himself, forgave them, and joined his father.
